Removing a Radiator

  1. You will need 2 spanners, radiator key, bowl/bucket and an old towel.
  2. Make sure the heating has been off and the radiator is cold.
  3. Turn both radiator valves off (Clockwise)
  4. Place the towel and the bowl under one of the valves.
  5. Using the spanners undo the valve where it joins to the radiator. Only undo the valve you have the bowl under.
  6. Water should start coming out the radiator it should stop after 30 seconds or so.

Fitting a Radiator

  1. You will need 2 spanners, PTFE tape, radiator Allen key
  2. We are assuming the new radiator is the same size and has the same brackets as the old one. If it’s not the same size do not continue as you need to drain the whole central heating system.
  3. Once you have removed the old radiator. Have a look at our section removing a radiator.
  4. Remove the parts of the radiator valves still in the old radiator using the Allen key. Remembering which side they each came from.

Changing a Towel Rail or Radiator

Its not necessary to drain the whole system when changing a radiator or towel rail so it can done fairly quickly. About 45 minutes for a radiator and 60 minutes for a towel rail.
